We arrived at the Naval Hospital today during a bad part of the rainy day we’ve had here. After driving around for nearly 20 minutes trying to find a parking spot we finally agreed to have Tom let us out at the curb.
I was taken into the ultrasound room on my own so there would be no distractions from little man while the tech was getting all the measurements and necessary pictures taken. Once the requirements had been met he called in Tom and Alex so we could all see the baby on the monitor. I had asked him how sure of the gender he would be seeing as mistakes can happen. He claims that he is just that awesome and he gives me 100% that he will be right. He said he’s been doing this for 13 years and has not ever had anyone come back to tell him that he was wrong. So, we see the baby, head, a slight profile shot (hard to get because the baby was lying face down and facing my back a bit), their legs and back. Then the tech says, “Mom’s going to have some back up.” He pointed out the appropriate telling signs to us and shocked us with the news that instead of welcoming our 4th little boy into the family we will be bringing home a little girl.
We’re not upset, shocked is more like it. Considering this pregnancy was a shock to start with this just adds another element to it. We are excited that we know now, the pregnancy is that much more real now. We can begin to buy things and not feel bad. Up until this evening we hadn’t purchased anything except a box of diapers a few weeks ago when they were on sale.
So, Little Miss is still set to be joining us around June 8th. I’m hoping with Tom’s back and forth schedules at work that at my next dr’s appointment we can either nail down a definite date for a c-section or get a time frame. Tom’s command has big plans for him, the platoon and the company; every other day those plans change, but with most of the plans it leaves Tom busy and unable to be home with the kids like we’ll need him to be. I’m hoping the dr will be understanding and we can either schedule or pick a date range to plan to have the c-section done. That way if something unavoidable comes up at work for Tom we’ll know for sure whether or not it conflicts and we can plan to have someone come out to hang out with the boys.
